Shares of the electric carmaker Tesla ( TSLA 5.33%) traded 4.3% higher today, as of 2:34 p.m. ET, well ahead of major market indexes. Tesla CEO Elon Musk reportedly told company employees in a meeting earlier today to "hang on to their stock."

As Elon Musk continues to take an outsized and controversial role in the US government, reports of harassment of Tesla owners and vandalism of showrooms and vehicles are on rise. That may, in part, be contributing to plunging resale values and interest in used Teslas in the United States.

Falling stock prices, plummeting car sales, protests, vandalism – it's all just another day in the year 2025 for Tesla now. Backlash against the company has become the norm, Musk's relationship with the Trump administration and his increasing involvement with right wing politics has made him very divisive.
