China criticised new U.S. military aid to Taiwan on Sunday, saying the $571 million package seriously violates the "one China principle" and provisions of joint communiques between China and the U.S.

The Chinese government is protesting the latest American announcements of military sales and assistance to Taiwan, warning the United States that it is “playing with fire.”

China has strongly opposed United States' move to sale military equipment to Taiwan, which it claims to be its own territory. Earlier, Joe Biden approved military sales to the island nation.

China has lodged serious protests to the United States following the US' latest military assistance and arms sales to the Taiwan region, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, urging the US to stop undermining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday agreed to provide $571.3 million in defense support for Taiwan, the White House said, while the State Department approved the potential sale to the island of $265 million worth of military equipment.

On Friday, December 20, the United States allocated $571 million in military aid. China, in turn, criticized the decision, reports Reuters. China stated today that the new aid package seriously violates the "one China principle" and the provisions of the joint communiqués between China and the United States.

US President Joe Biden has approved more than $900 million of defence support for Taiwan. The White House stated the funding would include equipment as well as education and training for Taiwan’s military.
