A winter storm system moved through the Pittsburgh area on Monday, dumping several inches of snow throughout the region in the process. Heavy snow began to blanket parts of the area early on Monday and continued to accumulate throughout the afternoon and the evening.

Allegheny County's Department of Public Works will send out 30 salt trucks with plows to clear snow and ice from 356 miles of county-maintained roads.

Crews have been working around the clock to clear the roads of snow, but there's some work left to be done in the city of .

A massive winter storm system brought large amounts of heavy snowfall to Western Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh region. Parts of the area south of Pittsburgh received the heaviest amounts of snowfall.

This colder air flowing in aloft combined with a weak disturbance aloft in the atmosphere will make widespread areas of snow showers and snow squalls active across our entire region through the remainder of today and tonight.
