After decades of being nearly synonymous with American fashion, the 85-year-old became the first fashion designer to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Ralph Lauren has made history as the first fashion designer to ever receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The style icon, 85, was presented the award — the nation’s highest civilian honor — by President Biden, 82, in Washington on Saturday afternoon.

Ralph Lauren, Hillary Clinton, Jane Goodall, Denzel Washington, and Bono are among 19 people who received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden in a ceremony (January 4) at the White House.

The star-studded list of 19 recipients includes several philanthropists, Democratic politicians and high-profile donors.

Fashion designer Ralph Lauren and actor Michael J. Fox among several others would be awarded the US' highest civilian honour, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
