MONDAY, July 14, 2025 (HealthDay News) — An Arizona resident has died from pneumonic plague, a rare but serious illness, health officials confirmed. The death happened in Coconino County in Northern Arizona, which includes Flagstaff. Officials gave no information about the person who died, The Associated Press reported.

Pneumonic plague is the most serious form of plague that is caused when bacteria spread to the lungs of a patient with bubonic or septicemic plague.

A sudden death caused by the pneumonic plague has caused a stir. Previously known to be the cause of bubonic plague, people are expressing their concern regarding the contagious disease and how did it come back.
