Travel disruptions continued across the country on Sunday, with over 1,600 flight delays and nearly 500 cancellations.
“A quick-hitting system will bring accumulating snow to all of central Pa. late Monday night into early Tuesday afternoon,” the alerts warn. “Hazardous travel is expected for the morning commute on Tuesday, with a plowable snow expected areawide.”
The Florida forecast called for wind chills as low as 20, enough to cause hypothermia with prolonged exposure to the cold.
Forecasters expected the storm to track up the Eastern Seaboard Monday night into Tuesday, leaving as much as a foot of snow in parts of the Northeast.
Mayor Craig Greenberg said the city has expanded its response efforts following last year's significant snowfall.
A winter storm system is expected to intensify Saturday morning, bringing steady snow showers and creating potentially hazardous travel conditions across Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan. Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Detroit and Roanoke, Virginia, are a few of the cities at risk through the weekend.
The National Weather Service issued an updated winter storm watch at 4:08 a.m. EST on Friday valid from Saturday 4 a.m. EST until Sunday 1 p.m. EST for Cass, St. Joseph and Berrien counties.
Metro Detroit is under a winter weather advisory as a storm could bring 6-8 inches of snow to the area, according to the National Weather Service.
