Officials say they have recaptured the final four monkeys who escaped two months ago from a South Carolina compound that breeds them for medical research

The last of 43 escaped monkeys has returned to the Alpha Genesis research lab in Yemassee, S.C., nearly three months after an attendant accidentally left two doors unsecured.

In early November, the monkeys escaped from the Alpha Genesis Primate Research Facility after a caretaker didn’t secure the doors, police said.

Finally, all 43 of the rhesus macaques have been found, according to the primate research facility in Yemassee, S.C., from which they fled in November.

The group of 43 young primates escaped at the beginning of November following an alleged staff error. It was reported one of their usual caretakers failed to secure two doors behind her. A week ago, only three of the monkeys remained outside of the facility,
