Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, said Saturday that she's removing herself from consideration to be a Florida senator — ending speculation that she could replace Republican Sen.

The announcement comes more than a month after the incoming president tapped Rubio as his secretary of state designee, prompting speculation that Lara Trump could fill the vacant seat in the US

“Florida deserves a senator who will help President Trump deliver on his election mandate, be strong on immigration and border security, take on the entrenched bureaucracy and administrative state, reverse the nation’s fiscal decline, be animated by conservative principles, and has a proven record of results,” he added.

Lara Trump, President-elect Donald Trump's daughter-in-law, said on Saturday that she decided to remove her name from consideration to be a senator in Florida.

The announcement comes after her father reportedly spoke with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) about appointing Lara to the Senate seat.
