A Ukrainian town, Kyiv, on Saturday staged a major drone attack on the Russian city of Kazan, 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) from the frontier. It was gathered that this is the latest in a series of escalating aerial attacks in the nearly three-year conflict.

Russia's Tatarstan Republic declared a state of emergency for government bodies and emergency response units to manage the aftermath of Ukrainian drone attacks.  "The head of Tatarstan has signed an order imposing a special emergency mode for government agencies and the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Drones have hit high-rise buildings in Kazan, the capital of Russia's republic of Tatarstan, with the attacks causing the city's airport to temporarily suspend flights.
