Former India captain and head coach Ravi Shastri strongly advised two batting stalwarts of Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli following their lacklustre performances in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Former Indian cricket team coach Ravi Shastri has advised senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to return to domestic cricket. The recommendation comes after their dismal performance in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

"Yes, there will be a review meeting but no firing. C'mon, you can't sack a coach for the batters' poor show in one series. Gautam Gambhir will remain the coach, and Virat and Rohit will feature in the England series. The focus is Champions Trophy," BCCI sources told IANS on Tuesday.

When it comes to batting there is some real talent available although the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will not decide anything till the end of the Ranji Trophy season.

Virat Kohli last played in Ranji Trophy in 2012, while Rohit Sharma has not featured in the tournament in the last nine years
