Russini joined The Athletic in 2023 after nearly a decade at ESPN, where she held various roles, including SportsCenter anchor, NFL analyst, and insider.
Longtime sports journalist Michelle Beadle threatened to expose other women in the industry amid the Dianna Russini controversy.
"Rather than allowing this to continue, I have decided to step aside now — before my current contract expires on June 30," Russini said in a lengthy statement.
"I have no interest in submitting to a public inquiry that has already caused far more damage than I am willing to accept,” Russini wrote in her letter of resignation.
Russini resigned on Tuesday, less than a week after the star NFL reporter was sidelined amid an internal investigation into her relationship with the New England Patriots’ head coach.
