Of all the fictional characters in the public domain, Dr. John Watson never seemed to be crying out for a moment in the spotlight. Watson has mostly been defined by his relationship to Sherlock Holmes,

The title character, as one might deduce, is Dr. John Watson, described in Arthur Conan Doyle’s “A Study in Scarlet” as “brown as a nut”—in this case, actor Morris Chestnut. The reimagined doctor is also an American geneticist who lives in 21st-century Pittsburgh and has all the investigative skills of his former associate—last seen disappearing over Reichenbach Falls with Professor Moriarty.

In the CBS show "Watson," Morris Chestnut takes on the role of Dr. John Watson, who, after the death of Sherlock Holmes, resumes his medical career while solving mysteries on his own. He joins "CBS Mornings.

Dr. John Watson, one-time sidekick to the detective Holmes in old books and movies, is now the central character of "Watson," premiering Sunday night.
