Sébastien Haller’s eventful three years at Borussia Dortmund ended Monday with a transfer to Dutch club Utrecht.

Borussia Dortmund left it late to defeat third division Rot-Weiss Essen 1-0 and progess to the DFB-Pokal second round. Niko Kovač named a mostly full-strength side, but will have been disappointed with his side's efforts for large parts as they toiled against a side two leagues below them.

Sebastien Haller's time at Borussia Dortmund is over, with the striker completing an emotional move back to a familiar destination in the Netherlands.

It brings the 31-year-old's rollercoaster stint with Dortmund to an end, having been diagnosed with testicular cancer shortly after joining from Ajax in 2022
