Former Democratic New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez faces a possible 15-year prison sentence after prosecutors called for severe penalties following his conviction on bribery and foreign agent charges.

Prosecutors say former US Sen. Bob Menendez should be imprisoned for 15 years, after the Democrat from New Jersey became the first to be convicted of abusing a Senate committee leadership position and the first public official to be convicted of serving as a foreign agent.

Ex-Sen. Bob Menendez, 72, faces up to 30 years in prison under sentencing guidelines. Prosecutors are asking for 15 years because of his age.
