You walk between five and six hours from the car park to the crater and back. The first part of the trail looks easy from above, but it is not. You walk all the way over younger or older lava - so yo… Full review by Katinka_Sndr
Hi, what hike did you take? We are going to reunion in 3 weeks, we rented a car as our time there is limited so you will help me if you tell me which exactly hike you took and from where. Any other advice is appreciated. Thanks

And Theodora, please please start your hikes as early as possible for the clouds do catch up fast.
Hi, I might be visiting Reunion and thinking of doing at least 1 hike. This place might be the highlight of all the trails. The hurdle is i'm traveling with spouse and 1 year old. Is it possible for a compact car to stop closer to the volcano thus reducing the hiking distance? Thanks

Hi, there is a lookout point that is very close to a big parking lot. It will give you views of the area surrounding the volcano and of the volcano in the distance. Definitely not a hike to do with a little one though. But the lookout point is a nice compromise.

Hi, We visited in April and had a nightmare trying to book a guide - no response/slow/very expensive (Eur200+ day). Eventually we just hired a car/got sim card for Google Maps and drove there. Its easy to get to on Maps. There is a. Ive restaurant with great views where you park (Gite du Volcan). From there there are arrows along the floor - down stairs, theres is a large flat walking plane and then gets steeper climb as you approach the volcano. It is easy to walk and follow the arrows all the way to the top. Better to go early (try to arrive before lunchtime). Also google Piton de la Fournaise for a lot more info.
